Shit I've done to my amp to make it "better"

Post by zedhed71 »

1-Over the years with the peavey I realised it was too heavy so I put side handles in.....much easier to carry.
2-Kept forgetting to take guitar stand to gigs or practice so add one to amp.....I know, brilliant right!!
3-A set of tilt back legs for $90.00 odd.......fek that.Plywood tiltback rules!
Internally I did the steve ahola mods after i had a tube redplate and had to go in to fix.
Big long drippy reverb tank is next, then a extension cab build.

Too heavy? Its only a Delta Blues.... are you built like a twig? I put a weber 15" in mine, that really changed it for the better!

The tilt back foot is a cool idea. Would be even better if it was rebated in to the base so that it didn't protrude when it was folded on.

Although I'm assuming the feet are big enough to hold it off the ground.
Ummm....

Good shit that is too. Like.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

My California Blonde was factory fitted with one of those spring loaded side handles as a tilt back device.
It's mounted in the base and is flush. I've since added an extending handle, wheels & feet from a cabin bag which
has made it redundant.
Epiphone Riviera P93 & EJ200CE, Hagstrom Viking Bass, Doubleneck bass/guitar.
Rivera Clubster 45, Carvin AG100D, Ashton BSK158.

I tried to make my JCM 800 1987 'better'.
Soldered in vintage caps and resistors, installed vintage valves, and got an aftermarket output transformer and fitted it myself. Trouble was that I did not have a decent soldering iron and also did not do the lead dress properly. Introduced hum. I had to pay an expert to sort it out. Once that was done it did sound pretty good, but it was time and money spent for not much difference.
Funny thing with that amp is even Ryan could not get it to do that thing a good non master volume Marshall does where they crunch really nicely above about three of four (the amp was far more mellow than what people usually expect from a superlead or 1987 circuit). He said no matter what you do to them, some amps just refuse to do it like the really good examples of those amps do and said nobody seems to understand why. If the amp is not doing the bizzo, it seems best to just get one that does rather than chasing shadows with the amp you have. Can learn a lot about amps in the process though.
