They're made by jj in Czech republic. They probably sound fatter because they're new.

EL34 come in many sizes, as do most tubes (I have recently been exposed to a 6V6 in EL84 format!). It's what happens inside that differentiates it all.

yep
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Do tell! Do you just mean EL84 size or noval base as well?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I'm not sure what the code is, but I'll get John Gilmore to explain it better. Proper 6V6 but 9 pin. He's using one in a little frankenamp along with an EL84 from memory.

6CA7 is the Yankee term for EL34 and they sometimes have big bottles as they are called. English and German El34s usually don't. Perhaps your tubes are big bottles.

I have a set of big bottle Sylvania ones that have fatter glass. Apparently the lows are tighter on them, but I have not got to try them out enough to know for sure yet.

p.s. although 6CA7 is the American EL34 and they are interchangable, they are not the same tube design. EL34 is pentode, 6CA7 is beam tetrode.
