Kemper Users

Post by Basket Case »

Seeing as we have a Katana users' thread, I thought I might see how many Kemper users we have who might want to discuss related matters.

My current setup is a non-powered toaster-> Matrix GT1000FX-> Mesa Recto Vertical 2x12/ 2x Laney IRT-Xs. Swicthcing via a Behringer FCB1010 with the UNO for Kemper chip. I'm really stoked with the sound.

Bought the Motor City Mods BE100 pack yesterday- best sounding rigs I've bought so far!

There is a Kemper thread, but it hasn't been active for a while. I'm an ex-member... best sound from a digital machine, easily. But I probably won't go back.

Out of interest- what made you move on from it?

Paranoia probably. I had a really good run for several years with mine, but was getting worried that: (1) version 2 hardware might be coming soon (so far no sign of it), that would seriously devalue it; and (2) if anything went wrong, it would have to be shipped back to Germany to be fixed. I was also only using a handful of profiles, so when an opportunity came to do a swap deal with it, I took it.

And that'd be my concern. Got burned once with a load of rack gear that was superseded and devalued so quickly it made my head spin.

I've been an avid user since mid 2013. I still love it. If it devalues because another version 2 comes out then I've more than got my money's worth already.

It resulted in me selling my Bogner Shiva and Marshall 30th edition amps. I've still got some great tube amps (including my old school Mesa Mark IV) but they get barely any use. The Kemper is the best thing I ever did for live sound too (I use CLRs at home but live go through the PA and use IEMs).

I live at the other end of the cycle. Picked up a PV1200 power amp made in USA around 2001 for $300, still had the original price sticker on it... $2199. Hooray for devaluation!

Sweet! Do you have some favourite profiles? As I said above, I'm really impressed with the Motor City Mods Friedman BE100 rigs I've just bought. I also have some M Britt and Soundside rigs that I have bought. The Britt ones work really well in a band setting.

I use almost exclusively either the MBritt ones or the Bert Meulendijk ones. They sound awesome in a band setting. I found a lot of the others to not suit me (TAF were too boomy, Soundside were great at home and in a recorded mix but a bit lacking in band mix). Guido, Sweet Spot Profiles and Top Jimi have some which I like but which ultimately not as much as I like the MB or BM ones!
