When your amp doubles as a pyrotechnic and smoke machine...

Post by Basket Case »

My Matrix GT-1000 power amp just blew up... so spectacularly that it scared the bejesus out of me!

Can anyone suggest a good repair person- preferably in AKL- not sure whether it would be Clarry's thing?

Peter Elsey Electronics in New Lynn is more of a hi-fi specialist, but he fixed my Peavey power amp. Charges $13 per 10 minute block.

Dump a drink on it and say the cat did it. That's usually covered.

Nothing at all! It had been on for around 30 mins, playing at low volume, had hours of playing since the last time it was moved or anything had been unplugged. It went off like a box of sparklers!

I'd be tempted to go direct to matrix first, send them some gut shots and see what they have to say!

Yeah, I've sent them an email. I don't expect them to be overly helpful though considering I bought it second hand.

You may be surprised, might be cheap enough to get a replacement board from them if they don't do it under warranty :)

I've dealt with their customer service. Responses seemed scripted. Didn't really get to the bottom of the issue.
