Learn me about 15" speakers
Was thinking a 1x15 cab might compliment the Dr.Z 4x10 cab and also be an interesting extension for the Sky King. Never had a 15 before or even considered one. Don't think the Dr.Z needs any depth adding (if that's what a 15 does) at all but maybe it'd be a cool blend?
Whadaya reckon?

most bass players i know rate 10's more.Probably a factor is most rehearsal spaces being on the small side so you get more percieved performance...Single coil wrote:Good for bass.

Do you still have the excelsior?Molly wrote:Was thinking a 1x15 cab might compliment the Dr.Z 4x10 cab and also be an interesting extension for the Sky King. If so hook it up as an extension speaker, the original Fender speaker is rated at 50 watts.
I've got my original one in a cab that I sometimes hook up to my Rivera Clubster 45 & it certainly makes the amp sound bigger.
Epiphone Riviera P93 & EJ200CE, Hagstrom Viking Bass, Doubleneck bass/guitar.
Rivera Clubster 45, Carvin AG100D, Ashton BSK158.

Re: Learn me about 15" speakers
As an extension for the sky king my bet would be that it will dominate the combo speaker and you'll only hear the 15.
I have used a 15 for adding huge clean sound, but that's about it, and I went back to all 12s because the 15 obliterated anything I paired it with.
Probably a different story with 4x10 which I expect would not get lost.

Re: Learn me about 15" speakers
Cheers for the replies. Conway might be closest to the mark... Can't stop tinkering, eh?
I just had a frustrating half hour or so with the amps. As good as attenuators are (and the Tone King ones are bloody good) it's always better without them. I so I wound them off and put the Sky King flat-out. Sounds glorious but so f'kin' loud... Especially the lead channel which I'm guessing has an extra preamp section.
Nothing for it. I'm just going to have to buy a lifestyle block. Talk about expensive upgrade...

Lifestyle block - with or without padded cell and a black and white tv - is not unreasonable.

It's really essential. No matter how good an amp sounds at low volume, you know it'll sound better at high volume.Single coil wrote:Lifestyle block - with or without padded cell and a black and white tv - is not unreasonable.

Re: Learn me about 15" speakers
wait a minute...
your amp is too loud so you're considering a 15 and a 4x10 stack?
have you considered a single low efficiency 1x10 instead?

Re: Learn me about 15" speakers
I think I've mentioned this before. In a small room, my amp with a 15 inch speaker didn't sound that great. In a bigger room it sounded wonderful. Is there something to do with room size with speakers?
Another thing with speaker size is the response time. 10 inch respond quicker that a 12 and a then a 15. Goodness knows what that means though!!!! ahhahahaha
