Powered Kemper Experience and Importing one.

Post by JohnG »

So I'm seriously looking at going down the Powered Kemper route. I've been gigging with the Atomic Amplifire going into the effects loop of a Marshall DSL40C and it sounds great (especially for the lower volume smaller gigs), but I would like to use something where I just have to take a cab instead of lugging around the DSL40C. I've tried FRFR with the atomic and it just doesn't sound as good as through the DSL..could be the valve poweramp section, but there's no comparison to my ears.
Anyway, any of you guys using a Powered Kemper into a guitar cab for gigs, with good results?
From what I can see it looks like Sweetwater are the cheaper than Andertons or Thomann by the time you convert for getting it from overseas.

Cheers.

It's due to the valve power section + actual guitar speaker. FRFR has a different vibe generally, more of a "recorded" sound.

I'd just keep using the DSL if I'm in your situation.
Amps:
Soldano SLO100 x2 | Wizard MC1 & MC2 | Diezel Herbert
Fryette Pittbull CL | Marshall 2203KK | Krank Rev 50 | Mesa Mark 2A

Rack stuff:
VHT/Fryette GP3, GP/DI & 2/90/2 | Peters FSM/Chimera
Verellen Meatsmoke | Synergy SYN1 | Mesa Studio

Yeah, I played a Helix too through the DSL valve power section, then a FRFR speaker and got the same results as with the atomic.
It was watching the Andertons vid of them playing the powered kemper through a guitar cab and A/B ing it with real amps that made me start investigating the Kemper route.

Just note that SS power sections have a different feel than valve ones too, even when you're playing through a guitar cab.

Ahh, that's interesting, as I got the impression that since those 2 on the vid guessed wrong in the blind test about which was the valve amp, and which the kemper that there was no difference.

Those 2 guys would tell you they couldn't tell a dog from a cat if it gets them more clicks.

I'd say find a SS amp, plug the Amplifire through the fx return and see how that works for you compared to the DSL before deciding what to get next.

put a Kemper in your cart and set your shipping address on Andertons.

price will drop because they remove the VAT
