The only issue with an EVM12L or JBL E120 is that they’re both extremely efficient speakers, which may not be what you want in a studio amp. Just my personal perspective but a big loud amp isn’t what I would go for in a recording context. Different story in a gigging situation.

As far as JBL goes, the K120 or D120 are both Alnico magnets and not quite as efficient. Or the Weber California or Chicago (I think that’s the EVM12L equivalent) speakers are meant to be be good alternatives for both of those.

I put an Emi Govenor in my Blues Deluxe. Big clear tone. The weight of the amp increased and so did the sound. The stock speaker was a toy.
