UAFX Lion Safari!

Post by Capt. Black »

I'm excited to try this pedal when it gets here.

For years I've been using Marshall amps, mostly various Super Lead heads, a lovely JTM45, JCM800 etc. But the one that's a keeper and still surprises me with what I can get out of it, is my '74 Super Bass.

I've also been using UAD gear for recording and mixing for over a decade. Lovely stuff. I was stoked to get a couple of the UAFX pedals this year. The Astra and the Starlight. I'm really loving them for guitar and they can even be used as outboard gear in a mix or live FOH set up!
They've done some tempting amp Simulation pedals in that series too.

When they recently announced the Lion Marshall amp sim, I didn't realise at first but they've modelled the Super Bass in there as well.

FINALLY someone has modelled my amp!!!

I'm busting to try one out as soon as I can. From a all the reviews I've seen, they play and behave like the real thing. The one thing that took a while to find, was someone who dialled back their guitar to clean up the tone. Most reviews just go straight to knobs on full cranked distortion (which is lovely) but backed off cleans and playing dynamics is 100% what these amps are about.

Anyone else got the horn for these? :)

Apparently The Edge has been spotted using the Vox ones in his live rig!

I almost bought the Ruby recently, still very interested to see how they compare in feel to other digital modellers. Seem like a step up.

I'm not a Vox guy, but the Chime setting on the Iridium sounds the least convincing to my ears. Same with the Boss GT line. Bias FX did ok in that respect. Wonder why Vox sounds seem hard to model.

I like their golden reverb pedal, but not the price. I thought the whole point of products being made in the East, was that they're more affordable 🤔

Crikey, there’s some expensive shit out there and nobody bats an eye.

I’ve used the plugins for a while now. Not cheap but soooo worth it.
Same goes for the pedals I’ve bought so far.
I don’t think they’re overly expensive compared to a lot out there. But I’m pretty safe knowing I’ll get a bloody good bit of gear.

I suspect most, like me, notice the price when actually would want to buy!

Interesting. I have noted the same a few times, scrolling through various amp modeller settings. I land on the Vox and quickly move on. One exception would be the Eleven Rack, which I think does the Vox and Matchless thing very well.

Vox is a bit hit'n'miss in Kemper profiles too, especially the chimey clean.

Kinda can’t contain my anticipation.
Ordered the Lion pedal and it arrived a bit over a week ago. But can’t get a day off to pick it up til later this week.

As one old friend used to put it, I’m fizzing at the bung with excitement!

The dude in the crazy pedalboard build in the pedals thread has one of these on his board in case of amp failure or just needing to go straight into the PA!

Yes. That and I can’t wrangle my super bass half stack up the awkward staircase at my place!

Hoping to get the playing feel sound of the real thing at a flat friendly volume.
