LB30 - b15(esque) bass amp (now new cab)

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

Always wanted an ampeg b15...
Iove the aesthetic, love the warm tubey goodness.
Picked up an ashdown LB30 on the not so expensive side of ok.
Soudsn spot on and is a good size for the living room set up but for its gibungous enclosre and aircraft hailing reflective guuard.

Plan... to strip it back, and finish it like a bare tranny (jb) and exposed toobs flip top style amp....

The idea is to have an aesthtically pleasing glowy valve head for the lounge/studio
Dont mind that its unprotected and not in an enclosure

If i can find an ampeg 1x12 to match that would be the bizz

Plan:
1. Strip back amp and refin in charcoal/gunmetal grey
2. Refin trannies in jet matt black
3. Fold a little cage for the power tubes.
4. Print a custom decal for the face

I need to get some decal paper and try to whip up a design
As the amp will be dark I’ll need white decal paper and I’ll need to do the whole face plate

Never thought of EL84s as bass amp valves before.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Nope me neither

Sounds wonderful as a home bass amp. Pretty loud actually but I doubt youd use it live.

Having said that I remembered my Jansen recorded 3 albums as a bass amp. But it was replaced on stage with an Ampeg.

Well, then this is the exact situation. My el84 as a home and studio amp.
And if we ever upgrade the stage rig to a valve bass head then itd probably be an ampeg
