Baja Electronics in CHCH
Hey All,
One of my customers wants some custom amp work done in Christchurch. I have heard that Baja Electronics do valve amp work in CHCH. Has anyone on the forum used them or can you recommend them, and if so why?
Many Thanks
Rob

Hmph, my experience with him was so-so. Granted it was through a shop, who apparently forgot to relay some of the problems with the amp I wanted fixed through to Steve, but if you're doing a full service anyway, how hard is it to miss the big annoying buzz of a bad ground while you're at it?
Perhaps it was just a mix up, I dunno, but it annoyed me quite a bit running back and forth between the shop and such.

pretty easy to miss I guess, unless you said you want him to fix manufacturing defects as well: or perhaps you should say 'Theres this big annoying hum, how much to fix?"slash-ed wrote: but if you're doing a full service anyway, how hard is it to miss the big annoying buzz of a bad ground while you're at it?
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

The Fender is going so well after a few components were renewed and the board re-soldered.
Steve showed me some of his custom built pedals, the likes of which were so pure and warm that I had never heard anything like it before.

Re: Baja Electronics in CHCH
Was about 6 weeks ago when I called him about getting a speaker fixed.
So as far as I know, he still is.
Call him, you'll find out pretty fast.

Yeah, he's still going.
To be straight up, I'd track down Guy Benfield for amps nowadays; Steve's getting an ugly rep for doing weird and unwanted things, only allowing groove tubes to be put in and not giving you your old tubes back, adding master volumes for no apparent reason.
I took my sovtek to Guy, sounds great! He has a policy of only doing mods that a subtle and won't ruin the resale or inherent character of your amp because of Steve's rep of changing random crap.
Effects though, Steve's your man.

Re: Baja Electronics in CHCH
Steve is the man. I've had help from him before with a pedal, which he fixed up in about an hour and charged me next to nothing.
I really really really want to try his Baja Tube Overdrive.... Does anyone in Auckland have one?
