TONKER
so i bought these 2 eminence 'the tonker' speakers... and then realised they sound crap. SO crap. no bass at all, i kind of horrid upper mid was the best i could get out o it...
whats up with that? my fender cheapo 12s were seriously better.
hhmmmm
could it be that they just dont GET ALONG with my amplifier?
or is this sound one that people like? strongly flavourd. it says on the tone description on the site that it has a very 'brittish' sound... huh?
so yeah, im dumb

Refresh my memory please. Valve or solid state? 1 x 12? 2 x 12? combo or head/cab separates?

Re: TONKER
This might be obvious, but they're not out of phase are they ? I wired a pair of of speakers in a 2x12 the wrong way once and got no bass at all, just horrid upper mids...aleks wrote:so i bought these 2 eminence 'the tonker' speakers... and then realised they sound crap. Re: TONKER
I've got a couple of tonkers (the speakers you filthy minded individuals) in a Holden 100W 2x12 combo and they have plenty of bass...
Perhaps you're not driving them hard enough

Re: TONKER
Easiest way to check the phase: plonk a 9V battery onto the speaker leads and see if both speakers move the same way at the same time.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

Re: TONKER
It moves the cone. So you need to watch the speaker as you connect the battery.Cabb wrote:What does the 9V battery trick do exactly?
