I bought a Zoom G2.1u in Japan..and it's damn good.
All I'll ever need for practice and recording. But I wish it had EQ instead of a Tone knob.

For less than $200NZ you can't go wrong.

I'm GASing for a new amp. Played a Line 6 Spider 3 120 Modeling combo, and I liked it a lot. They're only US$399 at Guitar Centre - but I can't find out what they weigh. Anybody know?

EDIT: Oops, I lie. It was the Valve 112 I was playing. US$699, but still not sure what they weigh.

It had some gnarly presets that did suggest it would make good on the heavy stuff (at least 3 Killswitch presets...)

I saw the Line6 Valve 112 and stack in the rockshop today. They actually look pretty sweet. Didn't try them out or anything, but i quote like the idea - having 4 completely programmable 'channels' is quite a nice feature, and the price isn't too outrageous - i think i saw a $1699 sticker price on the 112 model.

Some of the controls look a bit cheap and flimsy, but I think the concept is great - I guess its a very similar concept to that used in my Tube Fex preamp, where everything, from the preamp tube's gain to the digital effects chain is completely programmable and recallable by presets - although i didnt hear any motorised pots working, so its possible the preamp stage isn't a 'full plate voltage' version.

Obviously nobody whos into handwired non-master-volume amps is going to be impressed, but i think they'll sell by the boatload to the kids.

hey a little off topic butt i'm looking at v30 loaded cabs and i found one on trade me "jansen" anyone know anything about the quality? they're nz made so it'd be good for the economy right?

it's nz made, but prolly ~30 years ago.
I use a jansen valve head (bassman 50) for gigging. it's primo

I use a roland cube 20. It saves tube wear and tear for just general practice when you don't require a monster. It has the best clean tone and a great array of amp modelling type distortions including an accoustic simulator. It has some DSP (chorus, flanger, phaser, tremelo, delay) and they are ok but the reverb is very nice. It is beyond the $200 mark but anything sub $200 is generally gonna suck. You may be able to find a 2nd hand one for around that price. They also do a 15 W version with no DSP that may be cheaper. I tried a whole load of these little amps (line6, laney, Marshall, Roland) and this was the best of the bunch. Approx $350 new.
