You should pass her number on to BG then. I hear ARSE are currently recruiting a rent-a-crowd.

Not sure that "crowd" was quite the aim ;)

NZRS_Matt wrote:For totally authentic, you want the old Boss CE-2. (or if you're feeling rich, the TC Electronics Stereo Chorus)

The current production Boss CH-1 can come reasonably close to CE-2 tone.

The Visual Sound Liquid Chorus is awesomely lush and is just the chorus-side of the H2O pedal in a small format. Probably the best current production pedal for the tone you're after...

Concur re the CE2. Mine's got the Keeley Hi Fi mod and it's great warm, subtle thing. Dont use it loads, but it's nice every now and again... And it looks good with that blue LED.
Larrivee 00 Acoustic. FAV Strat for electric. Ibanez SDGR5 for bass. Push for Ableton. When not doing that, 3D CAD for tunnels...

I'm selling an 80 Ibanez FL-9. Does great cheezy 80's chorus as well as more full on flange.

Ed, I have a Digitech Chorus factory that is Boss-dimensions. It is super versatile and has some great 80's wank about it. I'm selling it if you want to read up on it and PM me.

I've tried dosens of choruses, including most of the boss ones, heaps of the line 6 stuff, and some rarer ones.

Choruses I've liked:

Korg SDD-2000, Marshall JFX-1, TC Electronic Stereo chorus, Boss CE-1 (an original), Voodoolabs analog chorus...

I've got the Voodoolabs one. It's modelled off the CE-1 and I think It's great for the price. I haven't owned an SD-2000, JFX-1 or original CE-1 but I have tried them and they are super nice. I used to have a TC SCF a while back which is probably one of the best chorus/flangers you can get in a pedal if you're after a lush chorus tone - especially for clean stuff... The biggest downside for me was that I had to mod it to allow for a 16v power adapter (otherwise I'd need a stepdown transformer) and that you couldnt switch between chorus and flanger on the fly. It was definitely a one or the other pedal as the good chorus settings were way off what a good flanger setting would be once you flicked the switch.

If you want that 80's satriani surfing with the alien distortion+chorus tone then you probably want a Boss CH-1. I've had one of those too and while I thought it was a little cold for clean playing, it worked super well with a distortion pedal, and better for that than most of the lush sounding choruses I've listed.

to get 80'S L.A sound the important thing is place chorus after preamp.
Im a chorus freak and big fan of 80's studio works. so chorus is my expertise

for the holy grail of L.A chorus sound:

Songbird/Dyno-My-Piano Tri-Stereo Chorus current price US$3000-$3500
Image

Used by all of those big L.A session cats. include: Michael Landau,Steve Lukther,Dan Huff,Michael Thompson etc etc..Most song thoese guys played during 80-90's. they have Tri-Stereo Chorus.

Listen the example like , Michael Bolton's "how am i supposed to live without you" Michael Landau played this song, the backing guitar part is what Tri-Stereo Chorus sounds like, also check Richard Marx first two albums, etc

T.C Electronics 1210 Expander + Stereo Chorus Flanger current price US$1400-$1600
Image
This is a chorus unit holds its own, popular among L.A session players. an alternative to Tri-Stereo Chorus.
clearer sounding than Tri-Stereo Chorus. more wider feel.

Roland SDD-320 Dimension D
Image
a Roland Classic. popular among 80's keyboard palyers but it sounds wicked on guitar too..

Roalnd SDX-330 Dimensional Expander
Image
Ultimate modulation processer, very popular among L.A and Nashville session players
all above discussed are analog chorus, In this box Roland digitally simulated all those classic unit above.
sounds very close to real thing plus real time midi control..

Eventide H3000
Image
A Classic digital unit. chorus is really close to Tri-Stereo Chorus

Yamaha SPX-90
Image
Classic digital unit. famous for its detune and chorus sound. L.A session master Michael Landau fed Tri-Stereo Chorus into SPX-90 preset "Pitch Change C" to get his signature L.A sound..

if those rack units are out your reach..

there are some pedals still sounds close to rack unit

Boss CE-1
Image
Tri-Stereo Chorus designed based on CE-1. closest sounding pedal to Tri-Stereo Chorus

Boss DC-2
Image
Pedal version of Roland SDD-320 Dimension D

Yamaha Magicstomp
Image
pedal version of Yamaha classic SPX effect processor line. will get you as same as SPX sound

Line 6 ToneCore Space Chorus and MM4
Image
Image
They both have Tri-Stereo Chorus and Roland SDD-320 simulation. but imo it sounds not even close.

Other pedals also can do 80's chorus but not that close..

T.C SCF

Eventide Mod Factor

T.C Nova Modulator

etc etc..

As usual, YMMV. Hit up Polar Bear for his thoughts.
I may well do so. Might see if I can borrow it and A/B it to the Rocktron.

And yes, was waiting for the 80s song chorus jokes :D
Fo' sure, anytime after Tuesday. I think it's really nice, not sure if it's cheesy.
