They are tonally very close! I wouldn't replace the pickups but I would definitely upgrade the electronics (better switches, pots etc) and shield the appropriate guitar cavities.

Damn you just reminded me that I should have picked up some copper adhesive tape from bunnings when I was there earlier, doh!

I've had great results from aluminum foil tape from Jaycar. Cheaper per metre than copper tape as well.
