Ash, I hadn't heard that before - but it does make some sense.
At Friday's gig I was looking at my Strat on its stand on the stage during a break and with the silver logo, I couldn't see the word 'Fender'. My '72 has it right out in heavy black. Never understood why they'd change that!

the curse of the Strat :
Buddy Holly - dead
Hendrix - dead
SRV - dead
Clapton - may as well be, never had decent tone after switching from his LP
Greeny - gets rid of his LP suffers mental breakdown now plays strats, might as well be dead.
Gilmour - needs 3 racks of effects to get his 'tone'
Say no more....

More alive than you'd think, too. A friend of mine who lives in the US met LP himself last year at a gig. The dirty old bugger proceeded to hit on his hot blonde 27 yo girlfriendbluesgeek wrote:and Les Paul.... alive

But Les Paul is just like any other 'artist' model, surely? Just because they couldn't find anyone else to endorse their product ...LOL - J/K.
I mean Gibson is not just producing its Les Paul models, neither is Fender just producing its Jimi models.
As a matter of interest, who was the founder of Gibson? I know they've been making guitars for a long time - much longer than Fender for instance, but I know little about their history that far back.

> Tom DeLonge strat
LOL - at first I thought - 'that's a real abortion', then I thought more about it and it does make sense - 1 pup, 1 volume - all you'd ever really need. Although for my tastes, I'd have the pup further forward, as I hardly ever use my bridge pup anyway.
