I guess it's easier than the existing system.Conway wrote:Looks like Thomann's prices now have NZ GST added to them.

the system just changed didn't it? to make it "fairer" on local retailers...it was announced months ago that it was happeningMolly wrote:I guess it's easier than the existing system.Conway wrote:Looks like Thomann's prices now have NZ GST added to them.

Re: Thomann collecting NZ GST
Yep, from 1 December. No first $400 of goods exempt, no chance of sneaking through something above that. There is an out if the overseas dealer sells less than $60k per annum into NZ, then it doesn't have to register and collect the GST. So Thomann either sells a lot of stuff here or it chose to register anyway.willow13 wrote:the system just changed didn't it? to make it "fairer" on local retailers...it was announced months ago that it was happeningMolly wrote:I guess it's easier than the existing system.Conway wrote:Looks like Thomann's prices now have NZ GST added to them.

Although we all know it's not the 15% GST that's making the real difference haha.willow13 wrote:the system just changed didn't it? to make it "fairer" on local retailers...it was announced months ago that it was happening
Anyway for people who are buying stuff over $400 it's probably easier to pay upfront than paying ~$50 processing fee on top of GST when it arrives...

Re: Thomann collecting NZ GST
We're not the first country to implement this or a similar system, so it's probably just a check the relevant box process for most international online retailers.

Re: Thomann collecting NZ GST
The new regime is, for items up to $1000.00, the vendor (if they turn over >$60K to NZ customers) is now required to charge/collect the GST. Item's that are $1000.00 or over, NZ Customs/IRD collect the gst. Private sellers on Ebay or wherever, where the sale incl. freight is <$1k are NOT required to collect GST so with a bit of luck it won't be charged!.godgrinder wrote:Although we all know it's not the 15% GST that's making the real difference haha.willow13 wrote:the system just changed didn't it? to make it "fairer" on local retailers...it was announced months ago that it was happening

Re: Thomann collecting NZ GST
eBay and Reverb will collect the GST on behalf of the sellers. There’s a provision for marketplaces/remailer services like youshop.
I think the changes are pretty fair, the easiest option to ensure compliance for everyone really. I’ve never minded paying GST, it’s all the extra fees and hassle of dealing with customs that made me think twice about stuff landing in the 400-700 range.
If you order from smaller retailers the threshold has basically just been raised to a grand.

Re: Thomann collecting NZ GST
I think it’s a good move, cuts out the customs processing fees and hassles, and gives the retailers the “level playing field” they’ve been banging on about.
Eg. Thomann Epi Casino NZD896 incl VAT (GST) and shipping. Rockshop NZD1199 incl GST plus shipping.
Level playing field? Your move RS!

Re: Thomann collecting NZ GST
If you guys are getting stuff from overseas make sure you check the boxes for Brown Marmorated Stink Bug - it's a real nasty and would be terrible for horticulture in this country. They keep turning up in ebay packages. It's a real risk to a lot of jobs and export earnings.
Thanks for listening to my public service announcement. My job relies on it...

They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Re: Thomann collecting NZ GST
I always open boxes in the garage. Doesn't matter if it's a guitar or a new tool from Bunnings. If something scurries out I don't want it in the house.
I once bought a Fender combo from up north somewhere. I'm not kidding you... the fucking spider inside the carton was HUGE! It hid under one of the flaps at the bottom of the box. In my attempts to tease it out and get a better look I accidentally detached it from its abdomen. It was like a large grape... Urgh. Not Australia size but bloody big for NZ.
