Help me find a great Gibson Les Paul

I have a wonderful ‘91 classic that I did all my main gigs with as a youngster (Gluepot, Java Jive, Empire Tavern, Custom House, Park in the Bar, Horse & Trap, the Carlton etc… on those were the days!) but really tried very few Gibsons since.

My guitar collection is conspicuously missing any other Les Paul’s. What I think I’d love would be a great R8 or R9. Nice burst (not cherry).

Any educated help available please? And even better if someone has one for sale…

What’s the deal with worries about LP weights? The trad I just bought (which I rate as awesome as an aside) weighs 4.4kgs, somewhat unscientifically based on me on scales with and without the guitar. Is that considered heavy? I certainly don’t notice it all. Are some real shockers? Am I just stronger than I look? Curious, as every LP discussion seems to end up a weight discussion…

Not helpful to OP I know, but mine is cherry and looks fantastic to me, so I am clearly the opposite of an expert!

There’s a definite correlation between the Les Paul price point and the budgets of weak old men.

What kind of frets do you like? That's important when choosing between R8's and 9's. I disliked the era correct thin frets on my R8, but they may suit you (bending wasn't as easy, you need to be more precise to hit the note). The neck profile comparison isn't too different, just a bit rounder and thicker on the 58.

My R7 is 4kg and feels light compared to other Les Paul's I've played. I forget the exact weight of my old '76 Custom was but it was uncomfortable to play standing for long periods.

But I'm only small so YMMV.

What’s the budget? R9’s of recent are in that $9k range. R7’s have been the better deal recently. That one TM case in point.

Not sure gold would be my first choice.

Budget is always flexible for the right guitar

What's wrong with the r7 on TM?

Nothing, I'm sure. But the one of Ishibashi might end up being cheaper.
