Subtle warm drive pedal

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

Have become increasingly comfortable with using a drive pedal, particularly with my Gretsch.
At the moment I have a catlinbread tweed voiced pedal 5f6.
I'm keen to explore one or two more options.
Definitely not high gain territory more just some colour and harmonic depth.

Any suggestions of something that would play well with filtertrons, JM/jag single coils and fender circuits +/- vox ac15 ?

Probably a bit too low rent for you but the Joyo Sweet Baby is a lovely OD for this kinda thing, and cheap as! https://www.guitarstuff.co.nz/pedals.html

I use a TC Cinders for this sort of thing into a Blackface. Sounds good with Strat and PAFs, dunno bout Filtertons. Stacks well. Doesnt add bass tho, if thats what you mean by warm. Its neutral, just sounds like your amp, but with overdrive

I’ve got something you might want to try- a Nobels ODR-1. They’re really rather nice, and not the typical thing. Plus it’s bright green.

Consider Reg's tweedmanium, his take on the les luis. I have a Mk1 and like it a lot.

This is what the sweet baby is a clone of, the focus control is a gem IMHO.

I still have one of these... maybe even ex-Jeremy? It doesn't add much, if any, colour though. Nice, subtle, and dynamic (touch sensitive?) drive.

You could try a Bronson? Happy to send one up for you to play with, no obligation

Through a Fender amp, I really really like my Klone. At even four times the $80 price, there’s nothing I’ve tried that’s as clear, warm, balanced and articulate. Including my real KTR Klon.
