Boss BF-2 vs BF-3

Post by Phildo »

So Ive been thinking about getting a flanger lately, and if I do it will be a Boss one.

What I'm wondering is is there much difference between the BF-2 and the BF-3?

There is a blue label japanese made BF-2 on trade me now, but it looks pretty beat up, and I'd like one in good condition.

Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters uses a BF-2 and I like the sounds he gets, but the one on his pedal board is white on top of the knobs, so I'm guessing its different than the jap made one.

Anyone got oppinions of the two?

If you want to pay crazy NZ RRP. Brand new on ebay they're US$189.

Keep an eye out for an old Holden flanger - they were very popular in the early '70s. IIRC they were orange or yellow??? Flower Power I imagine.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

More like $470? Why does everything that jim dunlop produces cost too much? [Dunlop, mxr, Crybaby...] A friend of mine just imported a Dimebag wah from the states for $275 NZD shipped to his door [no import duties] NZ RRP = $499.

And flangers aren't evil!

I just have bad memories of bands that used to use them permanently on. They're ok for a spot of tonal variation but all the time they just sound muddy to me.

I had (have somewhere, do you think I can find it???) a BF-2 and it's great. I got it used about 15 years ago so it's an older school one.

In my Cure days it got a hiding, it does a lovely Three Imaginary Boys sound. If you know a Flanger sound is what you're after I think you'd probably be happy with one. I think some people are disappointed with their flanger as what they were REALLY after was a phaser but just didn't know it!

Reviews for the BF-3 are really good, I think when/if I get a Flanger it will be a BF-3.

But I want a Phaser first. :)
