Pickup wiring question

Post by hamo »

There's a SD 59 on TM at the mo:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Music-instrume ... 076631.htm

The seller states that he's selling cheap because there's a join in the cable, but that it doesn't have an effect on the sound. Is that likely to be the case? What would be he pitfalls of buying a pup with wiring like this, and is there a cheap and effective way to remedy it if it does prove to be a problem?

provided the join was connected properly/well soldered, I don't see what the difference would be

Seems like it's just been cut and then fixed up. No drama. even if it was a crappy join, it would be easy enough to make a better one. I'd say it's a good buy.

hard to tell with these eyes and those pics, but it looks like they've added some potentially non-shielded cable to some braid-shielded stuff at the start. no drama I guess cos it's a humbucker, but you never know.. easy enough to shield it too...(since you're in I.T. you can score a bunch of it off the VGA cables in the back of all those CRTs you're throwing out constantly).
