How's an SD Alnico II Pro sound split?
I have a set of Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pros in my Epiphone Les Paul. Absolutely love them, they sound fantastic. both pickups are fantastic, but I really love the bridge pickup. So I wondered how one of these might go in the bridge of my Squier '51, and how it might sound when coil split? The stock humbucker isn't really all that hot, but it's good because it sounds Stratty when split. Does anyone have any experience splitting the Alnico II's? Does it sound anything like a proper single coil, nice and chimey? At all Stratty? They're not an overly hot pickup, but probably considerably hotter than your average single coil.

They sound pretty good with the classic metal swooped mids tone.

Until you split it, then it sound considerably weaker than a strat pickup.OpenCoil wrote:They're not an overly hot pickup, but probably considerably hotter than your average single coil.
Depends on which coil you cut, too. One is slightly hotter than the other.

I got a splittable one on my Telle bridge. Got that twang and the bite. There is a substantial volume drop from humbucker to split but makes a very versatile gigging setup.
