Do you really need a back up bass? Unless you're playing like Les Claypool, I think you'll be fine.

Go for the USA one. It's the same old story - settling for less will just cost you more in the long term when you eventually realise that you need to upgrade. Whether you want to get a brand new one or second hand one is dependent on how patient you are and how much money you have. In that order.

If you don't like the Warwick just sell it, then play a bunch of Jazz Basses until you find one you like. Concentrate on that first before looking at a P Bass I think. I don't see any real need to have both (unless you really want both) since the Jazz can almost sound like a P if you want it to. Use that extra money on a better Jazz or amp upgrades (if you feel the need).

Most of your tone comes from your fingers.
How about a new set of hands?

Don't submit to all these dull old conformists insisting you get a Fender. Throw some good passive pickups into the Warwick and see what she can really do!

It's not conformity, it's just thinking that Warwick and similar basses look wang. 8)

That's him.

If second hand American Jazz Basses are around $1100 then that changes thing considerably.
No, it's not a rockbass, it's one of the last streamers with the full wenge neck.

Thanks for the opinions so far lads, it's really appreciated. I am a bit tempted to see what it can do before I pass it on.

I have a Nordstrand PJ set on hand. If anything will do it, they will. Also a DiMarzio PJ set. Both noiseless.

Many of my favourite players are Warwick fans, but I hate them and "wang" is the best adjective for the job. Yicky, foul looking things that look like melted cookie dough. Awesome sound, average to good players IMO.

Fender Road Worn Jazz will be your friend 8) or something made to sound like how you want it, if you have the dosh...
