Which way do I fit a Super Distortion ??

Post by sty »

OK So I'm about to fit a Dimarzio Super Distortion to a brand new guitar (so no old pickup to copy).

The wiring should be simple enough as the outputs are colour coded and it's just a simple single pickup and volume control setup at the moment.

The only problem I can think of though is...

"Which way round do I put the pickup in" or how do I get the right orientation?

The Dimarzio site talks about North side and Southside but no indication of which is which.

My pickup has an F stamped on one side of the base (could mean forward, or more likely F Spaced, since it is).

All the writing is one way on the back (there is nothing at all written on the front).

The cable comes out of one corner.

So anybody got any experience with these pickups and fancy sharing?

(I've spent the last hour googling and reading various sites and the best I can come up with is the cable comes out nearest the neck - but I wasn't convinced by this so I'd like a 2nd opinion - ideally from someone who knows).

Oh, and apparently it makes a difference which way round you put them, hence the concern/interest

thanks in advance

I'm going to go with where the cable comes out should be bottom and bridge side.

Next.... which ever way the cable reaches.

If the cable reaches both ways... try the both! you may get a real sweet tone.. love it and then years down the track find out it was wire back to front. :)

It doesn't matter how you fit it. It's a Super f'in Distortion. It will rip your nads off and feed them to sharks. It will kick your anus out past Pluto (which I hear is again a planet - go Pluto, you rock dude). It will ... ah you get the idea. :P

so we all like a Super Distortion

but the best advice I've got is "suck it and see" ;)

Oh well, no problems.

It's going into a Mahogany RRV body so it should be seriously nice, should get the first notes out of it tomorrow if I'm lucky

I have one in my maple neck thru with mahogany wings and it seriously kicks ass, so you should love how it sounds.........as was said, wires are usually bottom right in the pick up cavity, so you can't go wrong
