We all know what a Tele set to 'icepick' sounds like. This is for anyone interested in what the pickups on a Japanese Tokai Tele might sound like. I could have made it sound fatter, but thought a clear pushed-clean sound would give a better indication of what the pickups are like.
Sorry about the 'music store' style noodling. Should've played a song, however you can clearly hear me switching in between the different pickup settings.
Not 100% sure on the neck pickup yet - quite low output. However, I'm still getting used to this thing and will give it more time. Choice!
Edit: on second listen ... it sounds OK. [\notUsedToSinglecoilsYet]

Take a leap of unbridled faith and order a set of Lollar Special T's. You will buy yourself a beer every time you plug your guitar in from that day forward.

Wheredoyougetthose?
Had a look on their website, and they look to be about $100 US each. Seems to be a popular choice.

Order them direct from Lollar. If you're coming to the Akl gearfest you can have a play on mine.badmotor wrote:Wheredoyougetthose?

Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Cool! Pickups are pretty hard to judge in clips like this but it ticks all the right tele boxes for me. I almost bought one just like yours before commissioning my Radian. I'm glad I didn't (because I love what I ended up with) but that clip makes me think I wouldn't have been disappointed with the Tokai.

Sounds like a Tele that's for sure. The lower output on the neck makes it less muddy I reckon too - nice middle-position tones. Let us know what amp you were using and how you recorded it.
And dude... 0:45 - 1:05... were you by chance riffing on a variation of the intro to Mogwai's "My Father, My King"? Sounded like it!
