Yep it looks like a rail one then so might be ok.
Danger Mouse wrote:I played a bastardised Squire strat (Japanese) in a gutar shop in the UK a long time ago, it had a neck and bridge P90. It played and sounded so great I took it straight to the counter to buy. The guy at the counter then informed me it was his personal guitar and not for sale, it was just in for a set-up. I was gutted.
Think further outside the box
Got a great p90 one already so will skip that option this time.
babytaylor wrote:I'd put the mini HB in the neck for creamy/bluesy neck tones with a bit more bite, a full HB in the bridge for rockin' out, and a SC in the middle with a 5-way switch so you can blend it in with the HB's and get the traditional strat 'quack' tones in positions 2 and 4. Of course the bridge HB would need to be split-coiled for that to work effectively.
Then I'd paint it surf green.
now that might be a option. will have a look and see what pick up mixture would work

BTW, you will probably find the mini HB has a different string spacing to the Strat.
Looks like Seymour Duncan has already had this done already so it does work .
Except for the Bridge, that mini HB rig sounds disappointingly like a Strat.

Ok the mini humbucker is dead. So much for that cheap option.
But the project is far from done.
So currently I have a basswood strat body and maple neck with rosewood fingerboard.
First step strip it back to barewood.
Modify The body to a bathtub pickup cavity so we can go nuts on the pickups.
Spray paint body.
Try to find some pickups second hand
Current plan is
Neck dimarzo Vintage minibucker
Middle soap bar p90 (maybe dog ear not sure)
Bridge Dimarzio tonezone.
5 way switch with a push pull for bridge maybe a always on for neck
Anybody see any problems with the plan so far.
Web is suprising lacking on info. So this maybe a total rubbish idea but post up any ideas or alternatives you may think better or if made a fatal mistake Has been made.

Sounds like a grand experiment to me. Even if the pickups don't blend well, you should end up with 3 distinct tones. Who knows, you may like one so much that you end up with a single pup Strat. Works for Ry Cooder.
Do you still have that red Radian Jazzmaster?

I wouldn't mini HB in the neck of a fender again.
Why not two actual single coils stuck together to
A) look like a HB
B) either/both on/off
C) series/parallel
D) phase
Clarity and power are both there. So is weirdness.
If I were doing the build I'd go HB sized 90 in the middle and whatever HB at the bridge.

Yeah the jazzmaster is still with me. Will be taking that one to the grave.

Intersting idea. Might be a little out of my skill range in the wiring though

I've often thought a minibucker made from 2 tele neck pickups would be a pretty cool way of having a bit more grunt at the neck when you want it but keeping the classic tone as well.
If anyone is interested, I've got a Seymour Duncan antiquity mini humbucker with nickel cover, and plastic surround for sale on trademe. Happy do do a forum price.

Been done. John Jorgenson CS Fender from 1997. Have played one; quiet and a little bigger than a s/c Tele.
