i traded a pickup with a mate a while back under the assumption that it was replacing a generic copy.Finally got round to having a crack at it yesterday and it seems im just replacing one with its modern equivalent as far as i can tell? im guessing its a dp103,have a 36th annv.PAF in creme sitting in its box wondering if its worth the hassle or just flick it on.

well after looking at the nightmare wiring im thinking the PAF will go.the separate braided earth really threw me though-ive never seen that before?

Fairly common on two conductor cabled pickups in my experience, or does it have four??

ive never seen one with it completely separate though-look closely and you'll see two different cables -one grey one braided.The grey has your normal hookups inside but the earth is the separate braid

Yeah, those old Dimarzios are rubbish and not worth much these days. I'll make you a pizza for it.

p.s. checking the output with a meter should give you a fairly good idea of what model it is. Up around 17K or whatever the f they were and it's a Super Distortion. Once you know the model you can just compare photos to narrow down the year.

You can also tell if PAF style or Super Distortion by the magnets. PAF style will have alnico, Distortion will have ceramic.

heh i'll be flicking the new PAF-not the one in the guitar.Path of least resistance(pun intended).
apparently the pole peices are a giveaway too-super dist have hex poles.This has slugs x2
