It's really very subjective. All I can honestly suggest is that you trust your own ears. And also be very wary when considering sound files, as there are just so many variables.
I've had an SSL-3 for a while now and tried it in a few different positions and I can tell they're very FAT! In the bridge it has an almost P90 vibe. In the neck i found it was lacking in top end - if you're used to that typical strat clean brightness you might have to compensate with your amp's treble settings. I guess it also depends alot on what wood your guitar's body is. In my case it was a lovely old Tokai with a very warm sounding alder body. I reckon it would be a good compliment to basswood or poplar...
Cheers for that. I'm actually going to be putting them into my project junkpile guitar which is made of lovely er, plywood. Hopefully the pickups will be able to sound good anyway!
