Mr Fabulous Guitar pickups
...seeing as my search for mini hums or firebird pups has hit a wall, I'm casting the net a bit wider. Anyone have experience with any of these? Very reasonably priced. Cheers

Haven't used any of these myself, but all the makers have some kind of reputation.

I've got a Mr Fabulous bridge Firebird in my custom Tele. Bright, snarly excellent. It replaced a TV Jones Filtertron for more bite and snarl.

The 'hopefully find some at a reasonable price in NZ wall'. Nothing coming up used and I baulk at having to pay $500+ for a set of SD's from the Rock Shop.JHorner wrote:What wall did you hit? The no bargains available wall?

You can often pickup seymour duncan stuff on aliexpress, legit too, mini-hums might be a stretch but worth a look, I can recommend the GFS stuff, really excellent quality and sound!

Re: Mr Fabulous Guitar pickups
I have Zhanbbucker minis in one of my builds..
and I used Sentells in number 22
both are good. The Zhangbucker is meatier..sounds like a PAF with more low mids....
The sentell is edgier...more top end and a bit less gain.
Both these guys will wind to what you want to hear.

No, they're not legit. They're fakes. Don't buy name brand stuff from AliExpress, it's counterfeit.jeremyb wrote:You can often pickup seymour duncan stuff on aliexpress, legit too, mini-hums might be a stretch but worth a look, I can recommend the GFS stuff, really excellent quality and sound!

Re: Mr Fabulous Guitar pickups
I don't know what you're basing that upon, but thats entirely incorrect, sure, a number of years ago this would be the case but they have all but eliminated fakes from there.NippleWrestler wrote:No, they're not legit. The brand stuff you find now is usually leftover OEM lots that manufacturers sell off, I've been buying stacks of Shimano bicycle stuff, along with Mavic wheels, have at least 2 friends who have bought seymour duncans from there, its all legitimate stuff.

That's a nice finish. Can I ask how you achieved it? I'm in the process of refinishing my LP and looking to go down the hand rubbed tru oil route.Lawrence wrote:I have Zhanbbucker minis in one of my builds..

Out of curiousity, which magnets did you opt for? A2 or A5?

Re: Mr Fabulous Guitar pickups
Mine is A5. This is a precis of Mr. Fabulous' description:- "THE DESIGN IS BASED ON THE ORIGINAL 1963 FIREBIRD PICKUPS USING ALNICO V BLADES AND A SPECIALLY DESIGNED MAGNETIC CIRCUIT TO ACHIEVE THE CLASSIC FIREBIRD TONE. I HAVE BEEFED THEM UP A LITTLE BUT STILL RETAIN THE CHARACTER OF THE CLASSIC FIREBIRD PUP. BRIDGE PICKUP HAS A TELE-LIKE VIBE WITH BALLS....KIND OF LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN A TELE PICKUP AND A P-90. THESE ARE VERY BLUESY AND ALSO GREAT FOR ROCK. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED".IMOCD wrote:MikeC wrote:I've got a Mr Fabulous bridge Firebird in my custom Tele. Bright, snarly excellent.
