It's simple
Guitar = guitar
Drums = drums
Bass = bass
Umm, is there anything I've left out?

Yes, keyboards should never intrude on guitar and bass sonic space, which is why they make 61 key synths for band use. Any time I sit in with a band with an 88 key board I tell the keyboardist to sit on his left hand if it get more than an octave left of his right hand.
Guitars sound like guitars until some idjit stamps on the distortion pedal set above 3, at which point they just sound like a very watery fart and stink up the band's sound just as bad.
Most vocalists have a defined range where they sound in tune. Stick to that.

Hurdy Gurdy.... some how... and I'm not entirely certain how mind you, an instrument that sounds like someone has shoved a nest of angry hornets into a goose with a kazoo bill and is randomly slapping the poor creature with an accordion.... Sounds amazing.
