Random. Strength helps for bends and wide stretches, but I think shred speed is mostly due to efficient movement and training your brain to fire off the nerve impulses quickly, which is going to take the same amount of time to learn whether you've got rubber bands on your fingers or not. Want resistance training for guitar? Get a 12 string.
