I found alternate tunings pretty mind boggling at the start, but once you get used to them they're pretty fantastic.

I play acoustic in open D, Drop D, Open E, E A B E B E (which is a cracker) and occasional other ones. I don’t do fancy stuff, I just use them to find chord voicings that sound sweet

You tune the G down to an E? Doesn't it just go "flap... flap... flap..." very slowly and rattleishly?

Not an alternate tuning in the usual sense, but from time to time I like to play around with Verdi tuning (C=256)

The tuning for Goo Goo Dolls' Name is quite cool: D A E A A E
Can only really use it for that one song tho.

Haven't been brave enough to try CGDAEg just yet. Had some bizarre tuning a couple months ago that sounded like open C, buggered if I can remember it though.

DGDG was a goodie for bass. Went back to good ol' half step though, where all my guitars are.

nope, it’s ok. ideally you’d use a higher gauge for that string. The flappiest tuning I’ve tried is Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls : B D D D D D

Ooohh... is it like that Nashville thing where you swap out the G string for a high E tuned to G? I've always meant to try that.
