Talk me into a bass effect

Post by Eruera »

So I've had a rather flush day on tardme and I have room for 1 boss size on my bass board. Never really been into effects for bass, in contrast to guitar, so what should I look at?

My current rig is Pitchblack->SFT->MultiComp->Phil Jones Super Flightcase

I play bass for a Latin/Jazz/Funk group and a 60s/70s/80s covers band.

Also, does anyone know of a multiband compressor pedal with dry blend?

Graphic EQ? You can get a lot of different tones.
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

Can you even get a multi band compressor in a pedal?

My last band's bass player had phlange and chorus on his bass and unless the settings were extreme, they never really showed up in the mix so pretty much a waste of time!

How about a tuner? That's all I have on my bass pedalboard. Maybe a Catalinbread SFT if your amp is a bit sterile.

Methinks he's already wise to your ways there.

Don't get how people get on with the SFT on bass, it was a magical fart box for me but others seem to make it sound nice.

Well it was meant to be a bass pedal right? To be honest I've only ever used mine on guitar, but my amp already does that SVT thing, so its redundant. I've kept it just incase I ever have to play through someone else's rig in which case I'll see if I can get that SVT sound out of it.

Talk me into a bass effect

I really like my SFT for bass, never tried on guitar, I'm using it for more of a B15 (my dream amp) vibe than SVT. The PJ amps are pretty hifi which might help, I could see the STF being puze through an amp that already has a lot of character.

Grab a filter (the 3leaf ones are awesome) or/and an octave pedal

Mojohand analogue filter 443 is a nice basic filter which sounds good
Any of the 3 leaf stuff

The mxr bass octave and oc2 are easy to get hold, and easy to sell off as well.

Music planet may have the Aguilar gear, yet to try the filter. But the octamizer has some really nice sounds
