I've always liked a good fuzzy bass tone. There's lots that sound too wasp-like though. Add an octave on and it sounds huge.

Apparently most people go for an octave pedal, filter pedal, or a distortion pedal.m I think by filter he was including filters and modulation pedals like chorus / flanger.

But I like the suggestion below for a bass synth or auto wah pedal.
Yup - that's me and my pal Steve or little stevie vai as I like to call him. In Auckland airport when I was 26. I'm not 26 anymore.

Think I'm gonna scrap the compressor, it doesn't seem to play nice with my J and the music I play doesn't really call for it. Gonna pick up the 3 leaf proton, and thinking about a source EQ so I can tailor to each bass easily
