Cool amp tone tweaking tip

Post by sirvill »

Was watching some random youtube video and stumbled on an awesome way to tweak your amps eq effectively.

1) Take a hi-fidelity looper pedal (TC Electronics Ditto, etc)

2) Plug it in Guitar > Looper > Amp (don't put it in the effects loop)

3) Play something that'll help you set your tone, and record it in a loop.

4) Put the guitar back in the stand, leave the loop on repeat, and tweak away!

Takes all that frustration out of trying to twiddle the knobs and play at the same time - a lot easier to find the bite points, or dial the mids to *just* where the honk disappears, etc etc.

Loopers are great for testing before and after tone for tube changes etc as well :)

I suppose you could use the same trick to see how your sound is at different points in a room too.

Or walk down the driveway to see just how loud is really is for the neighbours.

And then go back and turn it up a bit more.

It's amazing the freedom you get when you put the guitar down!

Actually It's also a good way to A/B other pedals, like pitting dirt pedals against each other without having to replay riffs - and having that riff consistently played again... and again... and....

I have recorded a clean signal to my DAW and then run it back out to the pedals -amplifier. Great for tweaking.
