What kind of pedal am I thinking of?
Still having a blast with my Mk V
Ch 1 is set for a big clean, Ch 2 is set for a Voxy overdrive (think Paisley) and Ch 3 is quite an open and dynamic Lukather vibe.
The problem is that they way I have Ch 3 set means I can't really sit back on the saturation for leads as much as I'd like in some cases but I need the open dynamic thing rhythm and more bluesy leads.
Is there a 'family' of overdrives that don't alter the character too much and give you more saturation, but not to extent of a fuzz, or is my compressor my best bet? Since the amp still have plenty of dynamics left a clean boost doesn't work as I get too much volume jump.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a Timmy to me.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

How about an EHX Soul Food? A lot cheaper than a Timmy. I personally find the Timmy to be quite overrated, now that there are so many similar pedals on the market.

I'd second the Timmy. Soul Food would work too as Ed says. Maybe even a BD-2?

the mesa pedals seem to me to be the perfect fit for what you want ..... the ones I heard at the last tronfest going into the mini rec were spectacular to say the least

Re: What kind of pedal am I thinking of?
I'm probably wrong here since I have little experience with lots of various overdrives, and no experience with a Mesa Mark V, but for what it's worth when I want more saturation out of marshall and orange style stuff, I need to push the mids a bit. This is where Tubescreamer works so well for me. For an already overdriven amp and the gain down and volume up on the TS, I don't think it colours the sound too much, but it definately saturates the tone?
At any rate, I think some form of overdrive pedal is your answer.

The Mark V has a foot switchable boost and the EQ on/off button.Kiwiaxe wrote:My Mark IV has a switchable (foot switchable iirc) "mid gain" setting on channel 3. Does your V have that and have you tried using it?

Ahhh now that would be handy, I'm already using my EQ and the MkV boost doesn't really change the toneKiwiaxe wrote:My Mark IV has a switchable (foot switchable iirc) "mid gain" setting on channel 3. Does your V have that and have you tried using it?
