Ben - that stone pick shown by MiniForklift was made by my wife Shari.....sold quite a few of those in various stones.

I could hook you up if you like?

(I mean with a pick and not with my wife)

I'd love to try one! To be honest I'm not sure that it would be a good solution for the way I play, but it would be a cool thing to try and have in the studio.

I suggest a.47u cap and an audio taper pot, preferably CTS. Darkens them picks right up.

Wait, pickups or picks?

The cheap ones BB. Horrible plastic ones that are at least medium thickness.

Not tortex.

Small update : I got a liitle bunch of picks today to try out. Results, from brightest to darkest:

5: Jim Dunlop Nylon .88
4. Jim Dunlop Nylon 1mm
3. Martin Celluloid .73
2. Pyramid Celluloid .73
1. Tortex .73

The tortex has a bit more ‘chirp' on the attack, but gets the string moving more I think. All of those were nice to play with.
I got some heavier ones, but the heavy Celluloid and Tortex are horrible to play with, IMO. Would be fine on electric.

But the overall winner was a celluloid thumb pick. I think it’s tone is slightly darker, as it’s cushioned by the flesh of my thumb, but even better the line between finger picking and strumming becomes almost non existent. I actually think that after probably 15 years of playing, I’m going to adopt the might thumbpick for acoustic playing.
The downside is that I have worked quite hard at travis picking over the past year, and I suck with the thumbpick. moar practice needed.

Yeah... but you really should try a felt pick.

I'm a big fan of the tortex 0.73's, my bandmate got me into them and I've stuck with them ever since :)

It seems that they do a thumbpick made from the same material, so I’m going to order half a dozen and learn to use them. I think I’ll try them on electric too. Would make switching to slide easier for sure
