Simon's talking about Lukather not me!JHorner wrote:What parts can't you play?

I hated it. Yes, he's got chops an' all that but it's a right dog's dinner of a solo.
Speaking of that solo in particular. I get that the guy's a top session player.

I'm just saying that in the link posted, the solo from Rosanna didn't make me want to burn my guitar and chop my hands off.slash-ed wrote:Before you diss Steve Lukather, maybe have just a quick scan through this list... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Luk ... iscographyJHorner wrote:What parts can't you play?

Re: Steve Lukather deconstructed
hardly boring runs, some chromatic playing almost bebop inspired.
out of context guitar tracks almost always sound strange imo

There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

Good that we hear things differently I guess.sirvill wrote:Man what's wrong with you guys, that was badass.
I've tried over and over again to sit through a Jeff Beck performance and just can't. I'll never 'get it'.

his solo on Tina Turner's Private Dancer on the other hand was woeful

My dad listened to a bit of Jeff Beck when I was growing up, I don't get it either. For the most part he seems to be trying to be clever for the sake of it and using the trem to make whale mating call noises.Molly wrote:

The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Re: Steve Lukather deconstructed
The rhythm parts in that were amazing. Solo had some extremely complex stuff, but isolated it sounded awful to me, but in context was badass.
