Ha. That's very clever. Is that a Melodica?
Is your recording in the same key as the PC&L original?
I'm off to the woodshed...

Re: What are you learning?
just a case of me not matching the drum sounds particularly well yet, normally I'm not too bothered but I'd like to get the drums on that pretty much bang on.
I usually rely on midi files others have made which I can tweak until I'm happy with them. I bin any generic 'general midi' stuff and use combos of vst instruments I have. The one above I'm pretty happy with as a backing track, the guitars will come out obviously if I end up doing anything with this live.
With it being in Logic it means I can run the show 'live' from MainStage and a laptop. With just two or maybe a trio we could get pretty close to No.
Yeah its the same key.... the melodica is a kontakt based sample I tried to get close with synths but they just didn't sound right and I managed to find somebody who'd sampled a melodica Haven't found any frogs yet though damnit!

What is VST instruments?
So live you play the 'backing track' via the laptop and then play over the top?

I couldn't find PLC then remembered I had it on vinyl , found JD,NO,Revenge(!), Electronic 12" singles.

Re: What are you learning?
VST instruments are software synthesizers, they weren't actually VSTi's but the mac equivalent. So yeah the idea is that I don't have to cart around racks of synths, its all on the laptop. Yeah its just playing over the top but MainStage is pretty flexible with what you can do with it. So basically just how New Order play livefoal30 wrote:What is VST instruments?

Re: What are you learning?
Ok. I'm really not up to speed at all with the computer stuff. I googled MainStage but yeah I'm a bit nil.
Did find a live take of Transmission on YT though, that was once played on RWP Punk special many moons ago.

Lots of bass bits but some cracking tunes as well. Regret has a nice melody and Temptation could be a dance floor shitkicker

Interesting read: http://www.soundonsound.com/people/recr ... onday-live but these days so easier to do stuff digitally with controller keyboards, Depeche Mode use Muse Receptors for all their sounds now and the fancy access keyboards are only for show!
