What are you learning?

Post by TmcB »

I'm currently trying to learn all of Panama properly from here:

My word, it's really showing up all the holes in my technique...I was never a gain kinda guy and trying to get into it is fairly humbling.

Also, I'm giving that Eric Johnson pentatonic lick thing a whirl

Trying to get to grips with that fluid, delicate, heavily embellished Hendrix-like rhythm so beloved by Mr Mayer. Then I get bored and fall back into poor man's Gary Moore.

Captain Black will kill me but this is what his Lester has got me doing.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Trying to learn the 20 seconds or so of Cliffs of Dover that I've never quite nailed.

Same goes for about 20 seconds of Love of God that keeps defeating me.

Also trying to learn Trademark. That song is deceptively difficult in places.

Heartbreaker and Baracuda are cool. Heartbreaker especially.

Suggest doing Magic Man.

I'm learning to create stuff with my new keyboard... I gave up on learning other peoples music a long time ago, I just find it frustrating, not just from a technical standpoint but also from an emotional one, I just can't get into playing something that someone else has created, it never brings the feels from playing it like you get from listening to the original, but if you come up with your own stuff you can zone out and enjoy being in the moment....

For our band, 'Turn the page' the Metallica version.. the song and solo is straight forward, however my slide playing ability is truly embarrassing..
