This is where I'm at too. But I also really like the Catalinbread DLS Mk1 as a TS alternative.Polar Bear wrote:Silverpistol Bronson for big overdrive, because it's better than all the other pedals.
Silverpistol judge for pushing any amp into pushed drive.
Stacking them for solo goodness is the way forward. If you haven't tried them, you've missed out on the good stuff!
What's your favourite overdrive pedal, and why?

Given all the presets I automatically go for on S-gear, Bias etc, I would guess some flavour of tube screamer. Never owned one though! Guess I should try one some day.
Oh, the xotic bb, that was magic before the Tweaker. I'll say that then.

SIlverpistol Rogue for the Klon-style overdrive, but with a bit more mojo. Timmy for making things more hairy. Fulltone FatBoost for unicorn tears.

When I was playing a lot in a covers band with a Tele, the Honey Bee was my go to for that warm grit that seems to cover the 60s-80s coupled with a KTR for the volume jump/boost. Still a staple but I don't seem to jump on it quite so much these days.

Although I resisted for a long time, my TS9 is a long stayer on my board. It has a mod ('less is more'). but my feeling towards it is 'you're the best until I find the one I'm really looking for'.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Normally I use Line6 Hd300, but for real pedal of over drive I like bad monkey, I think is better than Tubescreaner because Bad monkey has a little more gain

Re: What's your favourite overdrive pedal, and why?
Ive been studying the tube screamers for a while now and have come to a conclusion I prefer the TS9 to my ears. I also spent a few hours on youtube looking into TS9 clones and bugger me I cant tell the difference between the $180 TS9 and the $60 Joyo Vintage Overdrive!! Some state the Joyo is warmer - good for SC. So I just got one to try.... will it last, I dont know, resale value I hear you say pffft, who cares

Sd1. C6 mod optional.
As for actual drive pedals, the two button wampler pinnacle was really cool.

My favourite overdrive is a fuzz, cause overdrives suck

Marshall Guv'ner. I have the second still made in England version from the late 80`s. not as versatile as the original but still in the larger bent metal box. the original had a loop out which was useful. damn fine sounding pedal in my opinion
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

EHX Soul Food and SD-1 in front of my 800 Marshall are the current favs. The SF makes the amp come alive (can't explain why), the SD-1 is good for cutting with lead stuff.
All that said, I also like a simple Boss GE-7 or basic clean boost, as the JCM800 takes seemingly any pedal in front and doesn't complain.

No one ever died of hard work.. but why take the risk..
