Do you prefer time-based effects in the front end?

Great choice, love my dark side!!MrDINO wrote:I've just cleaned off my pedal board and started again. I've just bought the Keeley dark side which combines a fuzz type with a delay. Works well through my Hi Watt and with a Strat sounds right on. So now just a tuner, rat, reverb, dark side straight through the front. Minimal but suits me. Great DG sounds.

Am I going to have to step in on JB's behalf here? I've been waiting all thread for him to say "I prefer to put my time into the back end!"
I use the Mesa's loop for all mod and time, even though for example the echolution sounds fab in front too. I think it's a do what dig, rock whatever rocks you, kind of decision.

I think a dynamic delay would answer some of the issues with having the delay in front of a dirty amp, as if it ducks out of the way when you're actually playing that would deal with the mush factor.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Finally! I was going to say I'm an old-fashioned bloke and like going into the front, but I know some of you more adventurous fellas like a bit of backside entry.HackSaw wrote:Am I going to have to step in on JB's behalf here? Talking about signal paths. I've been slowly pursuing a fluctuating volume drop issue. Has anyone been down that road?. Checked my leads out and had amp checked. All good. Narrowing it down to a couple of pedals and power brick and of course guitar.

Re: Do you prefer time-based effects in the front end?
Last one I had was a dodgy patch cable.
Soldered it and did it back up and that was that.
Last year I had an old old peavey that'd just ... stop for a second or two, then produce volume again.
Couldn't for the life of me work it out. Suspected it was shonky wiring in the house rather than any device.

Re: Do you prefer time-based effects in the front end?
The old peavey's are known for volume cutout, its usually due to dirty sockets or broken solder joints on one of the jack sockets to the circuit board. Mine was dirty, spray in some electroclean and poke guitar lead in and out
