Shred

Post by miles »

Well, I always see people saying how it's so easy to shred, and that any monkey can do it. "Its the best and easiest way to impress people, its so pathetic, i dont know why you would want to" is all i ever hear, nobody has ever explained how it's so easy. Well, i'm a monkey who has been playing electric for 2 years, and classical for 2 years before that. I have good technique but can not shred. I would very much like to be able to. Would someone please share this secret with me, this amazing technique about how i can easily become a shred God?[/i]

It's not easy, it takes a lot of practice.

Those that say it's pathetic, or soul-less, etc., 102% of the time can't actually play fast so have to put down people that can. Classic "small man's syndrome"

Hell, even a hamster could do it!

Ten hours practice a day is all it takes, just ask Steve Vai.

Practise, slowly with a metronome and get the technique down properly. Then speed it up until you start getting sloppy again and slow down a fraction until you do it clean again. Thats what I was told but I cant shred very well, mind you I didnt do that...

Good lord  I think the problem is that he must be using a valvestate amp. If he had tubes that solo would have been amazing.

But, on the plus side, he has lovely hair

I love it when people bring up that point. Cos it's so true. :D

I think shred is awesome when used right - I'm usually in awe of stuff I can't do.

However that video game noise shit is abit too much and probably contributes to giving shred a bad name

Sams better than Herman, he writes all the stuff, Herman just pulls faces and wanks.

Sam Totman used to be in a Masterton band called Karnage with a mate of mine back in 1990-ish, I still have their demo Dead on tape. Horrible Obituary-style death stuff (song titles include Deceased and Hacked Into Quarters  ), nothing like the mentalist lightspeed stuff he plays now.

I met him plenty of times and he was a druggie/pisshead back then too.
