it took me a while to remember where I had heard it, but it came back to me - eventually.

c'mon - it's the theme song from a 1980's TV program - think detectives... (american brain fodder stuff)

God that's frustrating, I do know it but can't quite get it (keep thinking Dukes of Hazard for some reason).
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

google gave me the answer, but I don't remember the show at all, which means I don't remember the theme - I just thought I did.

amazing how these old(ish) shows had some great sounds for the credits tho.

I always loved the end theme to WKRP in cincinati.
and 'soap' was a blast (no guitar tho )

I remember it, vaguely, i might of been quite young, but i have this knack for knowing about a crapload of nostalgic TV series made within my lifetime - I mean everyone knows the big ones - Macgyver, The A Team, Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider & Magnum PI, but everyone else forgets the other golden shows.... Quantum Leap, Street Hawk, Airwolf, Remington Steele, Misfits of Science, Buck Rogers, etc.

Night Court had a great bass line.

Not as old skool as most suggestions so far, but Ren and Stimpy had an awesome bit of guitar playing for the end credits.

I remember loving the guitar in the Magnum P.I theme when I was a little nipper!
