EQ Pedals- UPDATE: GE-7 Mod done!

Post by Basket Case »

I'm getting good results using an EQ pedal in front of my amp for heavy sounds. I cut a bit of bottom end, slight boost in the mids and then crank the bass on the amp. The result is a much tighter bass response. Problem is that it's creating a lot of hiss. Is this because I'm using a cheap Behringer? I've heard the Boss GE-7 can be a bit hissy too when in front of the amp. Does anyone else run an eq in front for their dirty sound? What pedal do you recommend?

I hear the Keeley Sniper mod on the GE7 makes it very much better.

Last time I heard about this guy a few years ago, he had stopped doing the mods due to family committments or something.. apparently he's back at it, but massively back ordered.

I used to use a Boss EQ and it did the job well, but honestly - not needed. I only used it to cover up amp inadequacies. With a decent amp, they're superfluous, imo.

Did you use it in front of a distorted amp? The Behringer is quiet if used in the loop, however in front of a heavily distorted amp it creates hiss. I've heard that the boss creates noise if used in that way too.

Rog, I'm not using it to change the tone of the amp so much, but to reduce the amount of bottom end my guitar puts into it. The amp still sounds the same, it just tightens up the bottom end a bit so I get a better metal chug.

What sort of stuff's involved? I don't use my GE-7 much at all - mainly because of the hiss :|
