The Used.
Does anyone know what the guitarist from "The Used" uses tone-wise? I know he uses a DSL. Anyone know what tubes are in it though? Or, what settings he has? Any info at all?

He uses DSL's live. As for what he used on the record is anyone's guess - a band like that has a serious budget and some serious people on production duties, with access to a lot of amazing gear. Even if it is a DSL, the signal chain it'd be going through on the record, and quite likely also the post-recording stuff done to it would be a big contributor to the overall tone. Probably best to keep searching online and also look in Guitar World, Guitar One etc for any interviews.

Maybe there's a soundonsound interview with the producer on what he did to get their guitar sound?
On the tasteofchaos 200(3?) dvd he is defintily using two dual recs, all the bands seem to use either dual recs or dsls. Although both dsl and dual rec stacks were arranged on the stage for the entire concert, so maybe they were using a dsl?
I thought 5150s and tubescreamers were all the rage for that sort of stuff these days?

That's a couple of notches further up the heaviness scale.thehenderson wrote:I thought 5150s and tubescreamers were all the rage for that sort of stuff these days?
Yeah, he did use Dual Recs, according to a Guitar World from 2003 I've got here. But he's been using DSL's for a few years now.
Why do I even know this?
He should use a 65 or a Reinhardt instead

I certainly have. I keep running down stairs to play 'em a little bit more, then run upstairs to get on with what I'm supposed to be doing.
So far, amazing! 3 very cool amps! Haven't had much time with the Reinhardt yet, it's a "real man's amp" and I'm going to need to crank it up later tonight to hear the best of it, which is going to be some serious dB levels.
The London is as good as I remember - had a microphonic preamp valve on the "Marshall side", so I've been having fun trying different brands - settled on an EH. Doesn't sound quite as good as the microphonic Ei that was in there, but Ei's have a terrible rep for microphonics, so they just can't be relied on if you're taking it out on the road. The EH sounds almost as good anyway. I like the "Vox side" more at this point anyway, has so much vibe.
The SoHo is awesome too, very different to anything else I've got here. Nice to hear Blackface-style cleans from EL84's. It has more cleans and more overdrive than the London.
The cabinets rule too - the Alnico Blue and G12H30 combination is awesome, each speaker picks up the other's slack.

Aye, valve swapping = fun. Just be careful not to wear out your valve sockets.thehenderson wrote:Oooo, sounds like toney goodness. I've been swapping power tubes in my carr all today, distractingly addictive this valve swapping business
So is the london your favourite so far there?
And which cabinets arrived today?
Yeah, London is my fav by a smidgin. But SoHo is fun since I haven't had a blackface-voiced amp for ages.
Cabinets = 2x12's, indentical, one for each head. In hindsight, I wish I'd order one with a Gold+H30 combination, but the Blue+H30 is their "standard".
