Bang for Buck pedals
Hello
What are some good pedals that are cheap?
Im looking to get a tuner pedal (most likely a korg) then one by one I want an overdrive(to push my dsl 401), a delay and a chorus.
Prob looking to spend $100-150 for each one but I am on a limited budget at the moment saving to go overseas.
The modtones look pretty good, quite like the look of aqua chorus.
I read on the forum the daphon delay is analog, so will that mean its reasonably good?
Any recomendations much appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Bang for Buck pedals
I grabbed one of those Daphon analog delays on a whim and it's a fun little pedal. It's built like a tank! Only thing to note is the delay time is pretty short, about 200ms, more of a slap back than a full-on delay. Nice spacey sounds with some knob-twiddling.
Best advice is go into a store and try a bunch until you find some you like then check out the happy Trade Me hunting ground! Budget-wise I've always liked the Boss pedals and you should be able to pick some up on your budget.

Used pedals they almost pay you to take them away, they're so cheap....

'Analog' doesn't mean 'good'. It just means 'old school technology'. So if your're looking for a clear accurate delay Edge style then you probably want a digital. A great value delay is the Guyatone MD3 Microdelay, that you can get from http://www.stompbox.co.nz. Awesome sounding pedal that oscillates like an analogue, but sounds more like a really good digital. But if you actually want an Analogue those Modtones look great.
The Korg pitchblack is great value for money for a tuner, and someone here sells them, Custom Audio Boutique (.co.nz) I think.
I reckon the best value overdrive around is the Digitech (don't be put off by the brand) Bad Monkey, which can be bought brand new for $99, and it sounds great, or for somethung milder and more bluesy, the Boss Blues Driver is also great value.
So if it was me:
Korg Pitchblack Tuner
Guyatone MD3 Delay
Modtone Chorus
Digitech Bad Monkey or Boss Blues Driver, depending on style played.
You'd be well set up with those ones.

Yep, those Dano Cool Cats are well worth the dough - solid, true bypass for those that care. I had the tremolo, only reason I sold it is because it wasn't tweakable enough.

Re: Bang for Buck pedals
the daphon are indeed true analogue (bucket brigade chips), but as mr_sooty said that does not mean good.. it just means analogue. many people prefer digital as you generally get far longer delay times (epsceially per dollar spent)lukanize wrote: I read on the forum the daphon delay is analog, so will that mean its reasonably good?
the danelectro seem to get really good reviews. the guys at freestompboxes haven't had a lot bad to say about them, easy to mod.. and stupidly inexpensive...snitchez wrote:Danelectro cool cat chorus. 69.95

LOL - you could well be right, mate.Apart from anything that looks mildly wowrarevintage which prices goes x3-x5.
I don't rate old fx gear, so didn't spend much time looking for it.
I think you've made a valid point though for all gear, not just effectors. People get the idea that old (vintage) means great (wow rare collectible) which equals lotsa dollars. People are strange....
