Hey chaps,
There are other people who would like to hire the hall so we need to decide:
- location
- duration
- who will be going
- upfront payments
cheers
Sean

My vote would be backbeat, if we confirm numbers it would be free I would think. It's also central, with parking building around the corner. Matt?
However I'm not organizing, so....

I need to figure out what form it would take first as if it's a free-for-all, it'll just turn into a mess.
I'd like to put it on the shelf for the moment and maybe look to do it when things have settled down a little (the next month has already become a clusterf*ck).

Hey, random option...
We could use our church building if you like. Glen Innes. Wouldn't cost anything and there's a variety of spaces.
A couple of big rooms - one with (pews and) carpet and curtains etc - and one all conrete and gym like. Really big spaces though.
There are rooms upstairs but not sure whether there would be any advantage recording up there.
Proper coffee machine but I dont know how to drive it (manual all the way)...
no booze on site is (might be?) the only disclaimer. Insurance thing.
There's a few cafes/coffee places (Nosh, Columbus etc) not far away for lunch, a newish Lion-owned bar in Stonefields for later - and everywhere further afield of course. Ellerslie, Sylvia Park, Mt Wellington all pretty close.
A thought, anyway.

Larrivee 00 Acoustic. FAV Strat for electric. Ibanez SDGR5 for bass. Push for Ableton. When not doing that, 3D CAD for tunnels...

Thanks Kent, that's a good thought.KentNZ wrote:Hey, random option...

The thing I'd like to achieve is to have an opportunity to try to demonstrate the mic techniques that I favour as well as what you can do with a really basic setup, and to experiment with some new ones. If we keep it really simple, we'll be able to see the differences that mic selection and placement can make as well as the difference that instrument selection can make.
So, that being said, the way I suggest we try to do it is we have a bit of a show and tell about the different guitars that are present, then a chance to wander around and check them out/play them, followed by a recording session. The recording session would be something like one person playing something for everyone and us positioning mics in different positions to compare them, and then a playback to hear how the recordings sound. Then on to the next person/guitar combo, and finally maybe a jam with three or four instruments and recording all of them. I can supply mics and enough recording gear to run that.
What would be extra cool would be if I can get a few volunteers to be the players and maybe even agreeing on a song to jam on to finish up.
How does that sound? Thoughts? Feedback? Too formal/boring?

Acoustic guitar/recording Gearfest (Auckland)
Sounds less a fest and more a workshop. Why not do something a bit more structured like that? I reckon it would bring a fair few interested people out of the woodwork if they know they're going to get something from it other than a cacophonous headache.
Re: Acoustic guitar/recording Gearfest (Auckland)
If it's a day I can come (Saturdays tend to be problematic) I'd be happy to bring along my Bose L1 system to run acoustic/electrics through.
Never put down to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity

I'm not very good with them "empty" guitars. But if it were something like that, I'd be there with bells on.
