Sticky Strymon Footswitch, replace or repair?
Only had my Timeline for approx 2 years but the tap tempo footswitch is becoming sticky and seems to be catching. They are available on there website for not much but maybe it could be an easy fix.
Seems unusually to be Faulty so soon?
Don't think it's had anything spilt on it so I'm assuming wear and tear (although having 2 kids who knows)

Feckin' contact cleaner... Can take the lubricant out of switches so after cleaning they're as stiff as ewt.Miza wrote:Tried spraying contact cleaner into it? Worth a crack.

Repair is super simple. You can take them off really easily, desolder the switch and replace.

Sorry, yeah you're right, needs a lube not a cleaner.Molly wrote:Feckin' contact cleaner... Can take the lubricant out of switches so after cleaning they're as stiff as ewt.Miza wrote:Tried spraying contact cleaner into it? Worth a crack.
Nothing to see here.

Yeah wasn't sure about contact cleaner either so haven't tried it, could crc cause any damage if I give it a try? Could be good idea before I order a new switch.
The switches seem to have a plastic conector which I assume doesn't even require soldering?

A wee bit of CRC in the switch won't do any harm and since it's fucking-up anyway you've nothing to lose.Reg18 wrote:Yeah wasn't sure about contact cleaner either so haven't tried it, could crc cause any damage if I give it a try? Could be good idea before I order a new switch.

Yeah, just get a replacement. Not even worth doing anything else IMO. If it's sticking it's either got stickiness because you've spilled your ginger beer on it or the spring is broken and contact cleaner isn't going to fix that

I replaced one on my bluesky. If you're not a solder ninja, you could do some damage in there. Strymon wanted mega shipping to send it to NZ so I got one thru element 14.

Yeah, I replaced a couple of the encoder pots on my bigsky - very much heart-in-mouth stuff desoldering on those boards.Cdog wrote:I replaced one on my bluesky. As you say, it might be more cost efficient to get the foot switch from element 14 and solder the clip on that
