Re: Kenny Duncan Guitars?
That's a real shame, it was a year ago I was talking to him about Bigsby parts but even though he was cheaper than anywhere else I just had a bad feeling it wouldn't go well once I'd talked to him a couple of times. He wanted payment up front and was very vague on details of exactly which model he would provide. He talked like he knew what he was doing but missed some crucial facts about the setup issues with Bigsbys (which I had researched myself) got the feeling any dealings with him would end in him calling you an idiot and you not getting what you wanted.

Yeah, totally. That's the impression I get as well. Payment up-front raises alarm-bells when you're supplying your own guitar that acts as collateral (which he then ransomed here too). This guy would have normally gone to see Mel at Weta but unfortunately he was ill at the time. So wished he'd given me a call, I would have unloaded a wealth of information from Gary Kahler himself...

Re: Kenny Duncan Guitars?
I have to wonder how he considers himself to be a "Luthier" (on his card). I've yet to see a KD-made guitar. I'm sorry but doing setup work does not make you a Luthier. IMHO to be considered a Luthier you're building the thing from scratch, not assembling some parts-guitar from Warmoth (otherwise we're all "Luthiers").

Re: Kenny Duncan Guitars?
Iv heard from a few people that he is their go-to for setups/repair work and that he is the best, so much so that I have recommended him to people when its work i can't do (even though iv never sent any of my gear to him). May have to completely rethink, that trem replacement sounds incredibly painful and stressful/expensive. What a dick.

Re: Kenny Duncan Guitars?
I've had a good setup from Kenny D years ago. He does try to talk your ear off and convince you how special he is, master name dropper. I have played one of his acoustics which was setup well and decent in a non-spectacular way. Sorry to hear about the disaster with the Iceman, that's totally not OK, he should be protected by the Consumer Garuntees Act I would think?
Simcha Delft is brilliant but slow and although Rob Matthews hasn't worked my my guitars he's a lovely chap and I intend to get him to show some love to a pile of guitar when I get back to NZ

Re: Kenny Duncan Guitars?
Th every earliest trigger for me to be interested in the technical side of guitars/music came from Simcha's column in the English music mag...was it Beat Instrumental? anyway, great column and it inspired me as a youngan!LucyTheSpud wrote:bbrunskill wrote:Simcha Delft is brilliant but slow
