I'm using mine lately, on bright channel 1 (always) volume about 4, tone up at approx 3/4, all good, makes plenty loud home jamming noise. I seem allergic to loudness these days.
I find vol @ 8 is about the limit before saturation sets in. Stay with the standard V1 valve.
2024; I have explored the extent of the perimeter dome, there is no escape. I am become Morpheus

I had a perspex back made so I can show off the "guts" to those interested.

Makes it easy to see what I'm doing when changing valves too!

Thanks that's a good read!
I've just realised its got a 12ax7 in V1, maybe I should put a 12ay7 in?
Playing it through the only cab I have atm which has a V30 in, it certainly punches you in the guts! I've got a Celestion gold on the way which will no doubt be a better fit but it was fun
Dialling in the gain through the he V30 and letting rip!

12AX7 will give less headroom/more gain. 12AY7 is stock. Some people say a 12AX7 in an unmodded V1 on this amp does not get enough juice. If he modded it he may have changed the resistor and caps on V1. Did he give you any idea of mods done? Otherwise you will have to compare with standard layout.

Here is some info on 5E3 and mods

Not sure, he told me he bought the transformers when he was in Canada and bought the kit after from one of the places that does them. He did tell me but Triode doesn't ring a bell.

Nice looking build.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Looks very much like a Trinity Amps board I have. made in Canada. Classictone trannies are common to a few of the kit makers like Mojotone etc. Looks well done. Hope you can get the tones you hoped for from it. If not, then before flicking it maybe try reverting the circuit to stock specs and go from there.
